An Introduction to Working as a Personal Assistant

Diverse Cymru are pleased to offer a Personal Assistant training programme aimed at individuals who are currently seeking employment and may find the acquisition of new skills and qualifications beneficial for this. The course consists of four modules:

  • Disability Equality
  • Protection and Safeguarding of Service Users
  • Roles and Responsibilities of a Personal Assistant
  • Health and Safety

The combination of these four areas provides prospective Personal Assistants with a broad understanding of the necessary knowledge to become an excellent Personal Assistant. It has been designed to be completed over two whole days of study – with one module taught in the morning and another in the afternoon. However, learners can also opt to complete the four modules at their own pace if they prefer. After the successful completion of the four modules, the prospective Personal Assistant would gain an accredited NVQ Level 1 equivalent qualification, awarded by Agored Cymru, in ‘An Introduction to Working as a Personal Assistant’. The course is delivered by two members of the Direct Payments Team – Sophie Williams and Jen Horton, who are well placed to offer advice and knowledge to prospective Personal Assistants based on their experience of working closely with service users. The course costs £100 for the four modules, which includes all teaching and also the administration fees for Agored Cymru to issue the award certificate upon successful completion. We are able to accept funded referrals from other organisations as well individuals wishing to self-fund the cost of this training. Diverse Cymru can make support arrangements for individuals with additional learning needs – please make this known when booking.
