Diverse Cymru appoint new CEO

Diverse Cymru is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Chris Dunn begins his post this week, on 14 September 2021, replacing the retiring Bill Smale.

Chris Dunn was previously Innovation Manager at Voices From Care Cymru, leading the organisation’s strategic innovation, influencing, volunteering, and communications. Chris is a passionate believer in the power of lived experience leading change, guided by his values of inclusive coproduction, fighting for equality and delivering excellence.

Over the years, Chris has supported young people to provide evidence to the United Nations Children’s Rights Committee in Geneva, assisted in the development of Welsh Government legislation and policy including the Social Services and Wellbeing Act. Alongside care experienced young people, Chris successfully campaigned to enact change, allowing young people to stay in foster care until they are 21, the creation of the St David’s day fund for care leavers, and the extension of Corporate Parenting principal across public bodies in Wales.

Chris Dunn said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been appointed as Diverse Cymru’s new Chief Executive. I have spent all my working life in the 3rd sector in Wales; fighting for equality and ensuring the voices of the communities I work for lead change. Our vision is centred on a Wales without prejudice or discrimination, where every person is equal and diversity is celebrated.

The team at Diverse Cymru are real experts in the fields of advocacy, mental health services for Black, Asian and Minoritised Ethnic communities, providing direct payment support, delivering training, consultancy and undertaking research along the equalities spectrum. I am proud to be leading the Diverse Cymru team and I am excited to listen, learn and act alongside communities we serve.”

Diverse Cymru would like to thank Zoe King for her steadfast leadership as Acting CEO over the last 18 months, her calming leadership steered the organisation through the COVID 19 pandemic.

June Francois, Chair of the board of trustees, said, “The board of trustees are delighted to welcome Chris Dunn to the role of Chief Executive Officer for Diverse Cymru. Chris has extensive experience of the third sector in Wales and will be looking to strengthen Diverse Cymru’s impact on the equalities agenda, and engaging with government funders, policymakers and developing partnerships to grow sustainable income streams.”
