Hynt is a national scheme that works with theatres and arts centres across Wales to make accessibility information and policies around free tickets for personal assistants and carers clearer, consistent and easier to find
Hynt is a membership card
The Hynt membership card is available to people who have an impairment or a specific access requirement, or for the carers of those who do, which entitles them to a ticket free-of-charge for a personal assistant or carer at all the theatres and arts centres participating in the scheme. The application form for the Hynt card can be found on the Hynt website and at participating venues, or you can click here to find out more about the eligibility criteria. For those who are not automatically eligible, or for people who require more than one personal assistant or carer, Diverse Cymru acts as the primary arbitration organisation.
Hynt is a resource for everyone
The Hynt website is a resource for anyone interested in information or news around access and the arts. The site features listings of all accessible performances, as well as providing up-to-date access venue information to help you plan your visit. Through regular e-updates to the Hynt website and social media platforms, Hynt provides relevant and up-to-date arts and theatre access information.
The History of Hynt
In March 2014 Arts Council of Wales appointed Creu Cymru, in partnership with Diverse Cymru, to deliver a new access initiative across the theatre and arts centre sector in Wales. Together we undertook a series of engagement sessions that helped us to better understand the wide range of experiences, barriers and challenges that people with specific accessibility needs face when engaging with the arts. A large number of individuals and specialist organisations generously shared their expertise, knowledge and resources with us to help support the development of Hynt leading to the creation of an innovative, peer-led scheme grounded in understanding and knowledge about the needs of disabled people . Hynt’s primary aim is to remove the barriers that hold those audiences back from enjoying everything that arts and culture can offer; opening up cultural spaces giving people the chance to have meaningful, memorable and inspiring experiences.
