Wales Co-op Centre

Business Adviser – Social Business Wales (New Start)

Closing midnight 13th Feb.

Start-up Finance Adviser – Social Business Wales (New Start)

Closing midnight 13th Feb.

Sustainable Development Adviser – Social Business Wales (New Start)

Closing midnight 6th Feb.

There has never been a more exciting time to join the Wales Co-operative Centre. This year we celebrate 40 years of supporting communities and co-operatives to make positive change across Wales.

Through our broad range of projects and services, we serve some of the most deprived communities across Wales, as well as some of the most diverse. The COVID19 pandemic hit those who were already disadvantaged the hardest, reminding us of the importance of tackling inequality. We know we can only respond fully to the needs of the people we serve if we are an organisation that truly represents our communities.

It’s the diversity of our people, their ideas and their lived experiences that inspires and drives innovation in our services and allows us to react to the changing needs and requirements of the sector. To ensure that our people reflect the diverse communities we serve, we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, young people, and those from diverse ethnic communities, as we are currently underrepresented within the Wales Co-operative Centre at these levels.

We will be recruiting several exciting new roles within our Social Business Wales New Start Team. The project has been operating since November 2019 supporting communities and individuals across Wales to develop social enterprise ideas. Despite the uncertainty of the pandemic, demand for our service has been unprecedented, and our team of Business Advisers have now set-up over 200 new social businesses across Wales. Most of these are operating within the foundational economy in sectors such as tackling climate change, community facilities, tourism, and health and social care.

Access to finance is a key barrier for start-up social businesses. Therefore, we have designed a role within our team to open doors to social funders and investors. We also know that many public and private bodies are looking for more local supply chains and increased social value, so we have created a role to be an “opportunity spotter” for the sector and create networking and commercial opportunities. Successful candidates in both of these roles will have the opportunity to shape the role and influence its direction.

We recognise that the roles we have advertised are broad in their remit, and we do not expect all candidates to have the full range of experience and skills in these areas. We are equally interested in you as an individual, your values, and what you can bring to the role. While the specifics of the job description are important, training, mentoring and support can be given for the right candidate who has the background and skills that can transferred to make this role a success.
